overview:
Becoming a member of West County Community Farm's CSA program means signing up to support the farm at the beginning of the growing season and in return, receiving a weekly share of all that we grow — produce, herbs, flowers, bulk crops and specialty crops — as well as 7-day-a-week access to the farm.
Your CSA Share IncludeS:
26-Weeks of Farm Fresh Produce: Harvest pick-up takes place at one of the 3 weekly pickups (listed below). All produce is picked up from our barn on the farm, located at 1720 Cooper Rd. in Sebastopol. Each CSA share may fill up their WCCF tote bag once per week. Harvest selection is free-choice — you decide what you’d like to fill your bag with — but members are required to obey limits posted on scarce items (i.e. 1 melon per share per week, etc.).
Access to all U-pick Crops, Strawberries, Herbs and Flowers: Members have access to all of our u-pick crops, flowers, and herbs. These crops do not have to fit in your WCCF tote bag (bring an extra!). The farm is open for member u-pick 7 days a week, sunrise to sunset. U-pick crops may be harvested on any day of the week and many are unlimited. Members are required to observe any weekly u-pick crop limits posted in the barn.
Open Access to the Farm: Members are welcome to visit the farm, playground, and picnic areas sunrise to sunset, 7 days a week, to gather u-pick crops, take walks, picnic with friends, enjoy the open space, etc.
During harvest season, members will receive a weekly newsletter including what to expect for the week’s harvest and u-pick crops, updates from your farmers, volunteer and workshop opportunities, farm news, recipes, and more.
You will receive a WCCF tote bag and orientation your first time on the farm which will outline important farm etiquette and safety policies.
harvest pick-up Logistics:
Start and End Date: This year’s harvest season will run from Friday, June 12th through Tuesday, December 8th (26 weeks). In the event of unusually late spring rains, the start of pickups may be postponed by one week, and would then run one week later into December.
Harvest Pick-up Days and Times: Members may come fill their farm tote bag with pre-harvested produce once each week, at one of the CSA pickups:
Fridays from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Saturday from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
Tuesday from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm.
Members are welcome to come to any of the 3 pickup days, whichever works best that week. (The farm is open for u-picking and enjoying 7-days-a-week.) If you are going to miss a week or more due to travel or other circumstances, you are welcome to send friends or family to pick up your share, either for you or for themselves. We just ask that you orient them a bit beforehand so that they know how to make the most of the share.
payment & PRICING:
Selecting the Correct Share Size: Members are required to sign up for the share size that corresponds to the number of adults in their household — not the amount of produce you’ll consume.
Each adult in the household is counted regardless of their degree of participation on the farm or exact quantity of vegetable consumption. Kids ride free.
How to Determine your Share Size: Simply ask, “How many adults in my household will be eating farm food?” If you are a couple with three kids, you must sign-up for the Two-Adult Harvest Share. If you live with two good friends and share meals, you all would sign-up for a Three-Adult Harvest Share. If you live with a housemate but don’t share meals, you would be a One-Adult Harvest Share. Share size selection is not based on how many vegetables you think you will eat. Underreporting household size is an abuse of the model and harms the farm financially. If you find you cannot afford your correct household size share, please consider alternating weeks (see below), requesting Share Price Assistance when you sign up, or paying with EBT. Check out our FAQ page for more information or please contact us if you are confused about which share to sign-up for.
Cost for the 26-week Harvest Season:
One-Adult Harvest Share: $1,680 ($64 per week)
Two-Adult Harvest Share: $2,676 ($103 per week)
Three-or-more Adult Harvest Share: $2,760 ($106 per week)
All share sizes receive the same, generously-sized West County Community Farm tote bag which they are allowed to fill once a week with as much pre-harvested produce as they’ll eat. In our free-choice, honor-system model, members can gauge their own needs and take what produce they’ll eat for the week. Many folks with One-Adult Shares will not feel the need to completely fill their bag each week, while those with a Three-or-more Adult Share will likely fill their bag and take advantage of the many out-of-bag options and abundant u-pick veggies, herbs and flowers that the share includes. Our pricing is based on careful budgeting and the question, "How much do we need from each participating adult member to provision them with bountiful food and flowers while taking care of our soil, ecosystem, and our crew?" Read more about the history and thinking behind the original CSA model here.
Deposit: A $150 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your harvest share. You will receive an emailed invoice within two-weeks of when you submit the form below. The deposit will go towards the overall cost of your CSA share.
Payment Method: We accept payment through bank transfer, check, cash, or EBT. After signing up, you’ll receive an invoice within a couple weeks with instructions.
Payment Schedule: After the deposit, payment can be made on one of three schedules:
In-full within 2 weeks of signing up.
In 3 installments, due April 1st, June 1st, and August 1st.
In 6 monthly installments, due at the beginning of each month, June through November.
Share Price Assistance: If you find you cannot afford the CSA-share that matches your household size, please request share price assistance on the sign-up form below, or consider alternating weeks (see below). We are generally able to offer a 10-15% reduction the CSA share price, which is made possible by the generous donations of other members. If you select that you’d like to request share price assistance, we will reach out to you individually after you submit your sign-up sheet to confirm how much share price assistance is available.
Donating to our Share Price Assistance Fund: If you are in the position to donate, please consider making a contribution to our Share Price Assistance Fund on the sign-up sheet below. These funds goes directly to members of our community who would like to participate but are in need of a reduced price share. It means so much to us to have your help in making the farm accessible to more members of our community!
SNAP/EBT: We accept SNAP/EBT. Select the SNAP option on the sign-up form below. SNAP/EBT funds cannot cover the cost of the deposit, but can be applied weekly to the rest of the cost of your share when you come to pick up.
Native Habitat Restoration Fund: Please consider donating to our Native Habitat Restoration Fund below upon sign up. Every year we plant and steward native perennials and oaks on the farm to provide habitat for our non-human neighbors. Donations to this fund go directly towards plants, supplies, and labor tending these important hedgerows.
Refunds / Cancelling Your Membership: Membership dues are not refundable. This is because the majority of membership dues are spent very early in the season to pay for the upfront costs (seeds, compost, labor, etc.) needed to plant out the fields. Please sign up for a season membership only with the reasonable assurance that you'll be able to enjoy it all the way through. Exceptions are made for unforeseen circumstances, life-changes, illness, etc., in which case, members will be billed up until they inform us of their need to withdraw. Please reach out to us as soon as possible if you find yourself in that situation.
Alternating Weeks: You may alternate weeks with another household, ideally of similar size (for example, two couples alternating as a Two-Adult Household Share, or two individuals alternating on a One-Adult Household Share). Folks alternating weeks are charged an extra $200 fee to cover the additional insurance and overhead costs. Groups alternating weeks may not “double up” by both coming on the same harvest week (this pertains to both CSA pickups and u-pick participation). In order to alternate weeks, please choose a point person to coordinate payment and scheduling for the group and have that person sign up. Please let us know if and with whom you will be sharing on the sign-up form below.
