West County Community Farm is a diversified farm near downtown Sebastopol, CA. We use regenerative practices to grow 10 acres of vegetables, flowers, culinary herbs, and strawberries primarily for our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. We also sell wholesale through our local distributor FEED Cooperative.

FIELD PRODUCTION APPRENTICESHIP
This is a production focused crew position geared toward a beginning farmer with a couple seasons under their belt, who wants to focus on the mechanical and technical side of medium scale diversified vegetable production.
Working closely with our Production Manager and Assistant Production Manager, this person will be trained on all our production systems and help with tractor operation, irrigation management, and leading efficient crew workflows through day-to-day horticultural tasks. Because this position offers substantial on-the-job training, we will prioritize candidates who are interested in staying with the farm for multiple years.
This role will prepare someone to be a production lead on this farm, or a similar operation.
Experience & Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years experience on a vegetable production crew
Mechanical aptitude and/or experience operating farm tractors and implements; experience in similar trades also considered
Familiarity with irrigation systems and basic irrigation concepts (PSI, flow, etc.)
Strong work ethic with ability to work long hours outdoors in all weather conditions
The ability to be flexible and chip in where needed
Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset; able to help foster a supportive work environment
Local housing and reliable transportation required
This position includes significant training, but candidates should have enough foundational experience to work safely and independently after instruction.
Primary Responsibilities
Assist with field preparation, bed prep, compost and amendment application, transplanting, and cultivation across 10+ acres of diversified vegetables
Perform 100–200 hours of tractor work per year using various implements
Set up and break down field irrigation systems; manage irrigation schedules and timing
Support the maintenance and care of farm equipment and tools and work shops
Work as part of the field crew 2–3 days per week (harvesting, weeding, greenhouse tasks, etc.)
Schedule & Compensation
$22–$24/hr DOE
40 hours/week
Full-time, year-round position starting March 1, 2026 (start date negotiable)
Access to all farm produce
2 weeks paid vacation

FIELD CREW
Our Field Crew is the heart of the farm. Field Crew team members help plant, cultivate, and harvest everything we grow. Tasks are seasonal: Spring involves lots of greenhouse seeding, planting out the u-pick garden, and big field transplantings. June through October consists of lots of harvesting, washing & packing produce, weeding, and more transplanting. September through December the harvest train rolls on, we do the big harvests (storage onions, carrots, potatoes, heirloom corn, winter squash) as well as the establishment of next year’s strawberries, garlic, and farm clean-up.
This is a great position for someone interested in deepening their experience in all aspects of diversified vegetable production on a close-knit team and in a rich CSA community.
Experience & Qualifications
At least one year of crew experience on a farm.
The proven ability to work outdoors in inclement weather including rain, cold, and heat up to 95 degrees.
The ability to maintain a positive attitude and stay focused in a fast paced environment.
The ability to receive and apply constructive instruction and contribute to a positive, supportive team culture.
Ability to lift 50 lbs repeatedly and perform physically demanding tasks (squatting, bending, kneeling) for extended periods.
Flexibility and willingness to take on a variety of tasks as needed.
Compensation & Schedule:
40 hours a week
$20/hr starting
Access to all farm produce
1 week paid vacation
This is a seasonal position (March or April through December) with the possibility of year-round employment for strong team members.
